• Erasmus+ Money Matters 2017-2019

          The project has been designed to involve young people living in different sized towns and villages as well as schools and countries (belonging to the European Union but not all of them using euro currency). Late European happenings as Brexit, Dutch elections, monetary issues made us think about the importance of preserving the European Union. It is crucial to make students understand how European Union works and how each country can be a part and individual at the same time. As partners we decided through this topic to focus on financial literacy and history/interesting events in each countries´ past. The project deals with several issues:

          FINANCES

          - financial literacy: the history and evolution of money, monetary systems, the value of money, safety parts of banknotes and coins

          - budget literacy: personal and family budget, my needs, learning about accounts, where to store money

          - payment methods: local and foreign payment in cash/cards, using cards (debit, credit)

          - electronic banking

          - saving and investing: setting up steps to reach short-term financial goals, setting up own business

          - loans, mortgages, depts

          - insurance

          - poverty vs. wealth in families, society and its wider context

          - consumer society, spending money

          - identifying sources of personal income, work on financial plan

          - analyse personal and economic-social events influencing own budget

          EUROPEAN UNION - learning about:

          - EU countries, when and how they joined, youngest members, to be members, what is needed for a country to join the EU, etc.

          - which countries use euro currency, what are the similarities and differences, what currency did they use before euro

          - future of euro

          - technical information about coins and banknotes: what are they made of, colour, weight, size, errors in printing/issuing

          - collecting coins: special 2 euro coins, memory 2 euro coins, starting packages

          - where and how are coins and banknotes made

          HISTORY/ART/CIVICS

          We hope students will learn about interesting facts from history, art, religion, symbolism, etc. due to symbols used on coins and banknotes. For example on 1, 2 and 5 cent Spanish coins the Cathedral in Santiago de Compostela is imprinted. Students can learn about this - that together with Rome and Jerusalem this is a very important pilgrimage place. The famous Saint Jacob´s Road ends here which is annually undertaken by 50 000 believers. OR on Greek 2 euro coins it is Europa shown with a bull. Europa was a king´s daughter, Zeus fell in love with her so he altered himself into a white bull and kidnapped Europa.

          We also hope students will think about political issues in Romania and Poland in order to predict their future regarding the introduction of euro. They will be asked to design euro coins for these countries based on their history and important personalities.

          We want to improve our students´ investigative skills (logical thinking, deduction, making conclusions). We want them to discover links among our countries, see the balance in being part of the EU and yet keeping national identity, to be able to critically think about happenings in the EU.

          The project includes mathematics, civics, history, art, ICT, develpos numerous language. Having partners both using euro and having local money makes this project unique, diverse and worth carrying out internationally. We intend our students to become more interested in the EU, learning and using foreign languages, making international friends and increase their motivation to learn about real life in other European countries in context of future job choices. It is very important to equip them in knowledge and skills which will be crucial while continuing education and looking for a job in the future not only in their country but abroad as well. We need our students to see how teenagers live in different countries, we hope that together we can find a solution to promote European Union.

          Planned activities and results:

          1. PROJECT logo will be created (based on a competition where every partner will join)

          2. Each partner schools will prepare a file including 1 lessons scenario/plan either on mathematics or history in English ( so that every partner could translate it later into their national  language). It will contain a plan/description of the lesson to be carried out outdoors or in a classroom and all additional materials such as multimedia presentations, audiovisual materials, pictures, photos, planned activities and other materials. During the students and teachers visit the lesson will be carried out by local/project teachers to all students. It will be an interesting language and ICT challenge for both students and teachers. It will be available on DVD, project website and eTwinning portal so every interested teacher will be able to use it in their school on lessons.

          3. ,, Money matters'' website and blog will be created on which all information about the project ( team , activities, mobilities, news, photos, films and other publications) will be placed. What is more, each published material ( CD, DVD,printed etc...), website and blog will have our project and ERASMUS + logo on. ( Website, blog: Spain )

          4. FACEBOOK ,,Money matters '' group will be created and open to students and teachers so that they could communicate any time, share impressions, opinions, pictures and so on. The language of communication-English. (Spanish partner responsibility)

          5. ERASMUS+ ,,Money matters'' school corners to be created in every partner school in order to promote international cooperation and the project idea, to inform every person being or visiting school about the project and its aims and results.

          6. Multimedia presentations about each partner school including basic information about the country, region, site, school, nearby tourist attractions or interesting sites, culture, students activities and mentioning the currency used in the country.(every partner school)

          7. International knowledge and quiz show ,,Money matters'' (quiz: Romania)

          8. Portfolio of historical events and important people (based on the countries´used coins and banknotes) in every partner school - CD, DVD, leaflets, posters, photos with description in English and national language (every partner school)

          9. PP presentations/DVDs from each year including reports /films from trips to institutions and students activities  (every partner school)

          10. ,,Let's Share our treasure''- exhibition of pictures, paintings, photos presenting unique natural beauty of the partner region/country in school  Erasmus + corners

          11. Money matters guide - a brief leaflet/ small book containing the most useful information about history, money, coins, banknotes , tips how to recognise forgery, and so on.( Poland and Romania)

          12. Money matters - teachers´guide to finances (Slovak and Greek partner) in English version including all project activities focusing on mathematics from each country, tasks, published in every partners country and distributed among schools in the area, parents, students, cooperating institutions, local government and so on.

          13. Educational game in English to be played by younger project students ( Greece)

          14. On every blended mobility a 1 week short term etwinning project will be completed , 4 altogether focusing on different topics each time and including dramatisation of historical events
